The online Bible teaching ministry of Stephen & Brooksyne Weber. <Previous Message · Archives · Archive edition Tuesday, August 16, 2011 This very old tractor was at the Antique Tractor Expo I went to this last Saturday. See yesterday's post for more photos of this interesting (to me anyway) expo. Listen to this message on your audio player. "The Unimpeachable King" "How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth" (Psalm 47:2). "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen" (1 Timothy 1:17). Today we want to share some photos from our recent peach harvest (Actually it was a peach harvest for someone else. For us it was a bushel of fresh, locally grown peaches purchased at an Amishman's barn last week!) This spurred me to consider a message on peaches. However peaches are not mentioned in the Bible. I do recall an old children's song that begins, "He's the peach of a Savior, He's the apple of my eye…" but that really doesn't go today and is actually kind of a cheesy song anyway! So, let's instead consider a word that has "peach" in it! I recall a portion of a sermon I heard at a conference many years ago by S.M. Lockridge titled, "My King". It really, really blessed me and its posting on the web has blessed me each time I listen. In fact I listened to it again this morning as I prepared this message! I particularly like this line which is a colorful expression of God's eternal sovereignty, "You can't impeach Him and He's not gonna resign!" Now of course impeach means to remove from office. It's not a commonly used word but here in the USA it's used to describe the procedure for removing an elected official or judge from office. But consider, today how many are desperately trying to impeach God. The daily verse describes a timeless truth that builds my faith and assurance as I ponder it. In our fallen world of violence, terrorist threats, and corrupt politicians may it speak to your heart today as well. The Psalmist wrote the words of our first text some 3,000 years ago yet they remain timelessly true: "How awesome is the LORD Most High." Many of you have sung that great chorus: "Our God is an awesome God". The sense of the Hebrew word "awesome" means "to fear, revere or cause to frighten"; emotions seen in the Bible when people had a close encounter with God. But it is a holy and healthy reverence. He is the "great King over all the earth." He is King over the macrocosm and the microcosm. He rules over you as much as He rules over nations. He is King over the fallen sparrow and the fallen world leader. Indeed He surely is King over all the earth and the universe! The second daily verse is a powerful expression of praise by the Apostle Paul, a benediction-like prayer found early in the epistle to Timothy as he concludes his testimony of God's grace in his life, "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen" Today, as many ignore or even seek to impeach Him join me in exalting this great King. I hope we can all declare, "That's my King!" You are King of Creation and King of my life, King of the land and the sea, You were King of the heavens before there was time, And King of all kings You will be. We bow down and we crown You the King, We bow down and we crown You the King, We bow down and we crown You the King, King of all kings you will be! Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily prayer: Father God, You are awesome in power; You established Your throne in the heavens, and yet Your Spirit resides within my frail heart. I witness Your unfathomable power daily when I see the sun rise in the east and set in the west; when I witness the change of the seasons and when I witness the change in a redeemed life. You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords and You are my King and the Lord of my heart. I honor You and exalt Your name above all other names, my King and my Lord. Amen. Correction: Yesterday we shared a photo of an old-time washer and identified it as a "ringer" washer. An alert reader corrected us. Of course it should be "wringer" washer! Colorful, Juicy Peaches! Brooksyne will describe the process and then we will share some photos of finished products. These are a variety known as "Ernie's Choice"; outstanding for eating fresh and for the various food products shown below. Acquiring these peaches is an example of neighborly "Golden Rule" thoughtfulness. We stopped by a produce stand last Thursday where we periodically shop and the produce owner, Ada, suggested that we visit her Amish neighbor before we purchase her peaches. She told me his peaches were larger and the flavor was outstanding. She was right and we bought a bushel's worth of peaches from him, but we'll certainly return to Ada's produce stand for other veggies and fruit. After I blanched the peaches to ease the peeling of the skins I soaked them in a Vitamin C fresh fruit mixture to keep the peaches from turning brown. This is a batch of Peach Orange Jam to be boiled for 25 minutes. Among the chopped peaches you can see the small bits of orange peel. This is a delicious marmalade recipe I received from Edna who just turned 90 a few months ago. She made it for many years and I probably will as well. It's delicious. Now a dunk in the 10 minute boiling water bath to seal the jars. Peach Jam and Peach Orange Marmalade....all I need is a fresh, hot buttered biscuit and my breakfast is so satisfying! Of course, that would also include a steaming mug of coffee. I canned about a dozen quarts of sliced peaches. How wonderful they taste in the middle of the winter. You forget the mess you made and physical labor involved in preserving the fruit months earlier as you enjoy the abundance of the previous summer. I also made nine peach pies for the freezer. I baked this one and planned to take it to the neighbors next door as I did the day before with neighbors up the street. But this one was just too irresistable - the smell got to us before I got it out of the house. So our next door neighbors only got half of this pie. We enjoyed the other half! This morning as we prepared our message we had biscuits with peach jam and a fresh cup of coffee! These were small biscuits, thus we could have more than one! Oh, sooo good! Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources "Awesome God" Video Michael W. Smith "Now Unto The King Eternal" Video Maranatha Promise Band "You Are My King" Video Newsboys "Crown Him With Many Crowns" Video 2nd Chapter Of Acts "That's My King" Video This is a segment of the powerful sermon by S.M. Lockridge that has the phrase, "You can't impeach Him". This man is a remarkable wordsmith! By the way, S.M. stands for "Shadrach Meshach" Here's the text to the sermon: My King was born King. The Bible says He's a Seven Way King. He's the King of the Jews - that's a racial King. He's the King of Israel - that's a National King. He's the King of righteousness. He's the King of the ages. He's the King of Heaven. He's the King of glory. He's the King of kings and He is the Lord of lords. Now that's my King. Well I wonder if you know Him. Do you know Him? Don't try to mislead me. Do you know my King? David said the Heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament show His handiwork. My King is the only one whom there are no means of measure can define His limitless love. No far seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of His shore of supplies. No barriers can hinder Him from pouring out His blessing. Well, well, He's enduringly strong. He's entirely sincere. He's eternally steadfast. He's immortally graceful. He's imperially powerful. He's impartially merciful. That's my King. He's God's Son. He's the sinner's saviour. He's the centrepiece of civilization. He stands alone in Himself. He's honest. He's unique. He's unparalleled. He's unprecedented. He's supreme. He's pre-eminent. Well, He's the grandest idea in literature. He's the highest personality in philosophy. He's the supreme problem in high criticism. He's the fundamental doctrine of proved theology. He's the carnal necessity of spiritual religion. That's my King. He's the miracle of the age. He's the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him. Well, He's the only one able to supply all of our needs simultaneously. He supplies strength for the weak. He's available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He's strong God and He guides. He heals the sick. He cleanses the lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharged debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent and He beautifies the meek. Do you know Him? Well, my King is a King of knowledge. He's the wellspring of wisdom. He's the doorway of deliverance. He's the pathway of peace. He's the roadway of righteousness. He's the highway of holiness. He's the gateway of glory. He's the master of the mighty. He's the captain of the conquerors. He's the head of the heroes. He's the leader of the legislatures. He's the overseer of the overcomers. He's the governor of governors. He's the prince of princes. He's the King of kings and He's the Lord of lords. That's my King. Yeah. Yeah. That's my King. My King, yeah. His office is manifold. His promise is sure. His light is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His Word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Well. I wish I could describe Him to you, but He's indescribable. He's indescribable. Yes. He's incomprehensible. He's invincible. He's irresistible. I'm coming to tell you, the heavens of heavens cannot contain Him, let alone a man explaining Him. You can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your hands. You can't outlive Him and you can't live without Him. Well, Pharisees couldn't stand Him, but they found out they couldn't stop Him. Pilot couldn't find any fault in Him. The witnesses couldn't get their testimonies to agree. Herod couldn't kill Him. Death couldn't handle Him and the grave couldn't hold Him. That's my King. Yeah. He always has been and He always will be. I'm talking about He had no predecessor and He'll have no successor. There's nobody before Him and there'll be nobody after Him. You can't impeach Him and He's not going to resign. That's my King! That's my King! Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Well, all the power belongs to my King. Thine is the power. Yeah. And the glory. We try to get prestige and honour and glory for ourselves, but the glory is all His. Yes. Thine is the Kingdom and the power and glory, forever and ever and ever and ever. How long is that? And ever and ever and ever and ever. And when you get through with all of the evers, then, Amen. Send a message to Stephen & Brooksyne. |
