"Enjoying The Journey"

ListenListen to this message on your aud
io player. Note: Due to travel a podcast was not prepared for this message.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God" (Acts 14:22).

We are travelling through the Midwest on our way to several family reunions in Oklahoma and Arkansas, as well as seeing family and friends along the way. One of the things we enjoy about travelling is seeing interesting and at times unusual sights as we drive along. Our goal is just not getting there but enjoying the journey along the way. We actually prefer seeing sights that are a bit unusual and expect to share some stories and photos during our trip.

Many travel with only a focus on the destination. The goal is to get there. I recall my mom and dad and their varying attitudes in making a long trip, especially when it was about going to see their kids. Mom just wanted to get there. Dad enjoyed traveling and seeing things along the way. That caused a bit of conflict, but it also added to their colorful relationship and the compromises needed in a marriage.

I want to make an application here concerning our spiritual journey. We do have a destination and by all means that should be our main focus. But the journey is what we call "the present life" (1 Timothy 4:8). Eternal life is expressed as "life indeed" (1 Timothy 6:19).

Our daily text is a passage many of us have memorized,
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). What a contrast Jesus portrays here and those of us who see the work of the devil in people's lives see the stealing, killing and destroying of their very soul and how it affects their personhood and even those closest to them. On this trip we have seen this as we've traveled, especially walking along a major city street.

But Jesus came that we
"may have life, and have it to the full." Other versions state; "have it more abundantly" (KJV), "have it abundantly" (NASV), "have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)" (Amplified).

We believe that this is speaking of abundance along the journey of this present life. Today although "we must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God"  may the Lord help us to experience His abundant life
on the journey through this present life.

Are you trusting Jesus, all along the way?
Does He grow more precious
To your heart each day?
Are you His disciple?
Test His Word and see,
He will give the Spirit more abundantly.

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, You made it possible for us to experience this earthly journey in abundance when You sent Jesus to earth. He came that we might have the fullness of the Spirit within our lives. The devil comes to steal from us and destroy our lives but as we test Your Word we find that You supply in abundance Your peace, joy, purpose for living and an overcoming spirit in the midst of the enemy's arsenal of weaponry. Through many tribulations we will enter Your Kingdom, but it will be worth it all when we see Christ. Keep us faithful till then. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Today's message is de
dicated to the memory of our friend Jerry Engle, who experienced abundant life during his journey here on earth. Jerry was a long time reader whom we met about 11 years ago shortly after we moved to Mount Joy when he and his wife came to breakfast in our home. He encouraged us greatly in this ministry and shared his joyful spirit and earnest Christian commitment with all those around him. He had battled cancer for a few years and we were saddened this morning to open the obituary page online from our Lancaster newspaper and see his name among them. We include it here for the locals who may be familiar with him or his family business. What a wonderful testimonial is included in the write-up of His Christian walk. Our prayers are with the family at this time.

* Due to travel we are temporarily suspending the preparation of regular podcasts with each message. It is a complex set-up and time-consuming to prepare in a hotel room. We expect to periodically prepare some messages as podcasts while on the road and resume regular podcasts when we return home.

Some scenes along our journey:

Greta, Dean and family 7/8/13Last night we visited with my (Stephen's) niece Greta and her family in the Saint Louis area. Greta is my brother Mike's only child and was the baby that first made me an uncle. We had dinner with them and visited awhile but are pleased we will also see them later in the week at a reunion in Oklahoma. Shown in this photo are her husband Dean and children Carolyn and Scott.

We are now at a hotel along Route 66 and heading toward Springfield, MO today.

We passed this collection of airplanes in a yard along I-64 on our route to Saint Louis. We passed this sight four years ago and stopped to visit with the owner.

Arch through the Eads Bridge on Mississippi River
When approaching Saint Louis we always look for the arch. I took this photo of the arch under Eads Bridge from the Riverboat several years ago.
The Eads Bridge was built in 1874 and is still used today.

Our other blogs:
"A Daily Prayer" - A blog simply posting the daily prayer. We keep this up each day since it's merely the prayer from the Daily Encouragement Net message!
"A Little Foolishness" - Humor/satire blog (a great outlet for non-serious writing but at times with a subtle message!) (Note: This material is satire!)
"Clear Minded" - Longer, periodic articles on specific issues impacting the faithful believer and church. (Actually this is my intent but I haven't done much with it!)
"Hymns of Hope" - Brooksyne along with two friends made a CD using classic hymns. Brooksyne tells the background story of the 11 hymns. All of these songs are also available for download on the site.
