Listen to this message on your audio player."A Healthy Craving" "For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good" (Psalm 107:9). “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied" (Matthew 5:6). "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good" (1 Peter 2:2-3). Turkey Hill is the name of a large dairy in our area. For several years we both served as chaplains there when working for a company that provided chaplain services to them. We continue to maintain contact with a number of friends we made when working there, including one who moved back to Puerto Rico.  We really like their products and always get a kick out of their logo which states, "Imported from Lancaster County". Since we live in Lancaster County for us it's really not "imported"! However Turkey Hill products are sold up and down the east coast and in these cases the logo connotes freshness and wholesomeness, since we live in a notoriously rich farm region. They have great tasting ice cream and tea and some of the best TV commercials I've ever seen. A visitor's center called the "Turkey Hill Experience" was recently opened. We were pleased that they renovated an old silk factory previously abandoned for years and was an eyesore upon entry in Columbia. When taking a tour yesterday I learned a lot about cows and milk that I didn't know proving you never stop learning and that there's always something new to learn.Well, let me share a lesson I once learned about drinking a glass of milk I learned a number of years ago.  When we pastored in New England I came into the house after a church service one evening and noticed a glass of milk sitting on the kitchen table. It had some crumbs in it but I was thirsty so I drank it. As I recall it wasn't as chilled as I would prefer, but otherwise I thought nothing of it.Later Brooksyne came in and noticed the glass was gone and asked me about it so I told her I had drank it. She laughed as she informed that the glass of milk was actually a compilation of what was left over in small cups she had served a group of children along with cookies (thus the crumbs). She had poured all that was left over from the small cups into one large glass and placed it on the counter intending to give it to our dog! Oh well, I guess I just had a craving for some milk that night and since that was over ten years ago now it obviously didn't kill me. Peter says we are to "crave pure spiritual milk". The Greek word for "crave" means an "intense longing." God has provided in His Word pure spiritual milk. It's interesting to me that in several other Scripture portions milk is conveyed as something that is the beginning point from which we are to advance. (See I Corinthians 3:2 and Hebrews 5:12-13.) But Peter reminds his readers that they are to always have a desire for the spiritual milk. His appeal is to all believers, not just new ones.  I hope I always desire the milk of God's Word, even the simple, familiar truths I have heard since I was a child. Peter illustrates this hunger with the analogy of a newborn baby craving for milk. For a newborn baby physical hunger is a sign of physical health.For all believers spiritual hunger is a vital sign of spiritual health. This is a primary means of spiritual growth. Whether we're new in our faith or have walked with the Lord for many years, like newborn babies, we are to crave pure spiritual milk. I recall a line in the old hymn "I love to tell the story" which states, "for those who know it best, seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest." The result is "so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." May that always be evident in our lives! As the Beatitude states, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied." Be encouraged today Stephen C. Weber  Daily prayer: Father, we lift our cup to You for a fresh filling of Your Holy Spirit that refreshes, invigorates, encourages, convicts and guides us into all truths. We want to be vigilant in our spiritual walk, never sighing at old truths but making them the unchanging foundation on which we build newly understood truths and personal experiences in which You reveal Yourself to us. We will continue to grow up in our salvation as we partake of all that You have provided for our spiritual needs. In Jesus' name we pray. Turkey Hill sure has some compelling ads on their present delivery trucks!  The building is converted from a long abandoned silk factory in Columbia, PA. They did an outstanding job in renovating what appeared to be a hopeless cause! They apparently didn't need the top floor so they just opened it up but left the support pillars and beams which nicely frames the water tower on the other side.
