Pumpkin truck
On the way home yesterday we came up behind this truck load of pumpkins in Annville, PA. I wonder how the pumpkins on the bottom withstand the 1000's of pounds on top.

"He Knows Me!"

"O LORD, You have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways" (Psalm 139:1-3).

My cell phone has a feature that tells me where I am when a photo is taken using the GPS to pinpoint the location. That's a nifty feature and a reminder of the many uses of GPS.

It's amazing the extent of knowledge available through GPS. Yesterday we made a chaplain visit on the way home from our New England trip. An employee told me about a use for one of their products using RFID chips that can pinpoint the precise location of each product. This will be used to monitor inventory. In this case it's vehicle batteries and he explained how each battery would have an RFID chip on it. This will aid the route drivers in knowing whether to stop to restock batteries. (see below for a link to an article explaining RFID)

However I got to thinking about this and all the products using RFID and how in one way or another so many now have access to precisely where we are! This can be both comforting and scary.

One thing is sure; God knows where I am at this and every moment. This is true for everyone!  He knows me; He's familiar with all my ways. He knows when I sit and when I rise. We may all exclaim along with David, "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me!" (Psalm 139:6).

Psalm 139 speaks of God's intimate knowledge and His care for each of us as individuals. Although David writes the Psalm very personally, applying these truths to himself, they are equally pertinent to everyone of God's creation. We can read it as though we ourselves wrote it.

Today we want to encourage each reader with these truths. He knows where we are and is intimately acquainted with the very issues that bring on anxiety, pain, temptation, as well as peace, assurance, and joy. In the midst of it all He encircles us with His loving care as He makes this firm commitment to every one of His children: "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

So, like the Psalmist, we properly respond to Him: "Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23,24).

Be encouraged today,

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, You created me with a set purpose in mind. As You search my heart, may You find it to be pure, undivided, and wholly true to You. I'm grateful for Your promise to guide and keep me secure no matter where I dwell. Father, what blessed assurance it brings to know that I can never move beyond Your compassionate care or loving favor. Not only do You grant me every breath on earth, but You will also help me conquer death. Because of these glorious provisions, I have blessed assurance now and blessed hope for my eternal future! Amen.

Mom and Dad 1944
Yesterday I shared that it was my parent's 68th anniversary. My sister located this old photo I presume taken in 1944.

We arrived home from our six day trip to New England yesterday afternoon thankful for traveling mercies in the course of our more than 1100 miles on the road. Our pets were very pleased to see us.

During our trip we took a ride on the Naugatuck Railroad in northwest Connecticut.

Naugatuck Railroad
Before passengers boarded the train ride I stepped in front of the engine to snap a photo. The engineer blew the whistle, practically scaring me out of my socks! Brooksyne sure got a kick out of that.

Naugatuck Railroad
The train ride winds along the Naugatuck River.

We go up along the edge of a dam with a nice view down the valley.

I didn't take this photo (it's a photo I took of an
old picture in the depot)

Naugatuck Railroad CT (10/13/12)
We had a nice time on our hour long train ride. Ester picked a pumpkin for us when the train stopped and passengers were invited to step off and pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
