Yowzy, November 2012
Yowzy, living like a queen!

ListenListen to this message on your audio player.

"Where Would I Be?"

"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:13,14). So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36).

Where would I be You only know
I'm glad You see through eyes of love
A hopeless case, an empty place
If not for Grace

Yowzy, July 3, 2012Yowzy is our neighbor's "rescued" cat. She showed up at their doorstep last summer; skinny, scroungy, and emaciated as seen in the picture. Truth be told the little kitten was somewhat repulsive. But Marion's heart was touched and she along with her husband, Doug, set out to give the little stray kitten a home. Yowzy is a name Marion gave her because she said it sounded like the very weak attempts she made at trying to meow when she made her first visits to their home.

A trip to the vet revealed that the kitten had intestinal worms. After proper treatment, a good food supply, a comfortable home and loving care givers Yowzy now thrives. She
is a beautiful, well-loved house cat whom Ester enjoys catsitting when the neighbors travel.

F-16Captain Scott O'Grady knows better than most what being rescued means. In June 1995 his F-16 was shot down over Bosnia. He managed to eject and parachute right into enemy territory. He ate leaves, grass, and bugs, and stored what little rainwater he could collect with a sponge in plastic bags. He was only able to use his radio transmitter late at night due to fear of detection.

On the sixth night of his ordeal, his faint radio signal was picked up by another U.S. pilot. A daring rescue mission eventually brought the helpless pilot to safety.*

As amazing as this rescue was, every believer has experienced a far more miraculous rescue, as today's passage reveals.
For He (God) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves."

"Rescue" translates the Greek word "rhuomai" which emphasizes the greatness of peril from which deliverance is given by a mighty act of power. In the New Testament "rhuomai" is always associated with God as the Deliverer and with a person as the object of His deliverance. The wages of sin made us liable to eternal death and placed us in the kingdom of Satan making us subject to his rule and authority placing us in bondage to our old (sin) nature inherited from Adam. God rescued us from this awful, hopeless condition.

This rescue involved a spiritual relocation "from the dominion of darkness" where He "brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves." We are rescued from the dominion of darkness which is Satan's realm and brought into the kingdom of light which is Christ's realm, for He declared, "I am the light of the world"!

Today amongst all the noise and busyness and worries and strife and all the other peace robbers of life ask this question, "Where would I be if not for grace?" Then verbalize this wonderful truth (personalized) "God has rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of the Son He loves
in whom I have redemption, the forgiveness of my sins."

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
I once was lost but now I'm found
A hopeless case, an empty place
If not for Grace

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Praying manDaily prayer: Loving Father who rescued us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of Your Son, the light of the world, we are eternally grateful for Your loving work of grace in our lives. Where would we be today without the redemptive work of Jesus who bore the pain and disgrace of our sins that we might be forgiven and receive eternal life. We give You praise now and forevermore through Christ Jesus our Lord in whose name we pray. Amen.
