"The Blood That Will Never Lose Its Power" "For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross" (Colossians 1:19,20). Yesterday Brooksyne and I both donated blood at one of our company bloodmobile drives. We have participated in these blood drives since our college days nearly forty years ago donating in a variety of settings. For a number of years our church in northern Pennsylvania hosted the Red Cross blood drives for that area. But yesterday was the first time for both of us using a bloodmobile. It was a nice, comfortable set-up! I still find it fascinating and somewhat inspiring to join others from all walks of life lying on the reclining chair and giving blood (though we recall the flat, skinny tables). We're willing to accept the "small pinch" and inconvenience knowing that our blood may very well help save another life. When Ester was little we took her with us and explained to her what this all meant since she had benefitted many times from donors because of her multiple heart surgeries. We prayed for the people who would be receiving the blood and we talked about an infinitely greater blood donation when Jesus Christ made peace for us through His blood, shed on the cross. This blood donation involved God's only begotten Son and was certainly not a source of minor pain or inconvenience. He agonized in great pain and died a horrific death when he voluntarily gave His blood for us. When we give our blood at best we will extend another's life for a few bleeps in the span of eternity. It has very limited power in regard to the extent it can help someone else. But the blood of Christ was instrumental in the reconciling of all things and the making of peace between man and God. This blood has unlimited power to save to the uttermost for "the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). In order for my blood to do any good a recipient must accept it through a transfusion. It won't have any effect sitting in a warehouse. Now Christ's shed blood has already brought millions into reconciliation and peace with God who have by faith willingly accepted this provision. Have you done so? The blood that Jesus shed for me Way back on Calvary, The blood that gives me strength from day to day It will never lose its power. Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily prayer: Father, it is only through the sacrificial blood of Your Son that my sins are forgiven. My guilty stains are plunged into the bottom of the ocean to be remembered no more. All the adjectives in one's vocabulary cannot adequately describe the depth of my gratitude for such a selfless act of love. Your redeeming blood sacrifice frees us from the penalty of sin in this life and for all eternity. Thank You, Jesus, for freely shedding Your blood on my behalf. Amen. John Wiseman is a friend of ours who worked with bloodmobiles for a number of years. He told me in his area they had blood collection drives in churches on Sundays. I understand the collection period generally follows the service but John told me at times it's during the service and the pastor will ask the people to sit near the back until they are called out. I thought it was interesting that these drives are now held in conjunction with services and as a pastor I can sure think of some interesting thoughts I would use to encourage people to participate! John and his wife Joan are now retired and seeking ministry opportunities as the Lord opens doors for them.
