"God of Creation"

"God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth" (Genesis 1:16,17).

Last night we had an outstanding sunset. I was conversing with a friend and as we drove westward the sun was directly in front of us. I had my sunglasses on but still had to slow down and shield my eyes. We commented together at the remarkable sight. It was a fiery, blinding, bright orange-red that suspended in air for a few minutes like a giant rubber ball and then just as quickly it disappeared.

The setting of the sun is a tremendously predictable aspect of God's created order. Consider what it would be like if just as the sun set it suddenly stopped and then began to rise again from the west. (Of course I am aware that this would actually involve an abrupt reversal of the earth's rotation.) If this were to happen all the problems we have now would instantly be very trivial. Yet it's really not something I worry about! And sure enough this morning we had another sunrise, right on schedule.

I have a firm, unwavering belief in the Genesis creation account in spite of the relentless assault of modernism. I am aware that many mock my view and would call me a simpleton. I believe this account forms an inviolable foundation for God's redemption plan. I am also aware that there are those who, like me, make a profession of faith in Christ, yet concede to the shifting whims of the world on this issue, asserting the creation account is really not important. Many Christians may not be aware of the excellent resources available defending the Biblical record.*

Last night my friend and I commented on our faith in God who made the sun. "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible" (Hebrews 11:3). Regardless of what view one has concerning our origins it still requires faith of one kind or another.

Each predictable sunrise and sunset provides a witness to the truth of the creation account, which in part declares, "God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." Today let us again faithfully serve the God of creation!

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Daily Prayer: The skies and the earth belong to You, Lord, and have sustained humankind since the time of creation. When You made the world You set everything in its proper place and scheduled its proper timing. You made the moon to mark the seasons and the sun always knows when to set. You make it dark, and it becomes night. Lord, You have made many things; with Your wisdom You made them all. With my whole being I praise You, Almighty God.

Brooksyne's note: In considering Stephen's hypothesis of the sun rising immediately after it sets, I couldn't help but wonder about Washington or the United Nations and just how they would deal with the situation.

I took this snowman photo yesterday in a neighbor's yard. It was made after our storm this last Friday but with warming temperatures it's melting quickly!
