Singing Cows Chocolate World
We've taken the free Chocolate World tour at Hershey Chocolate many, many times but always enjoy it, especially the singing cows. We also enjoy the free mini chocolate bar at the end!

"Adopted"

"He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will--to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves" (Ephesians 1:5,6).

Ester will turn 22 years old next Wednesday and she has been asking for several months if she could have a dog of her own.  Roxie was supposed to have been hers but within a week or two of her arrival about six years ago she chose to adopt Brooksyne instead.

So we have been checking rescue sites, animal shelters and other puppy locations for a pet that Ester would like to adopt.  It should come naturally to Ester to adopt since she herself is adopted. She personally knows the blessing of being loved and cared for by those who choose to do so, not because of the biological ties, but because they find pleasure and fulfillment in doing so.

Many years ago I recall our pastor speaking on the daily text reminding us of a wonderful spiritual transaction that takes place as part of our redemption in Christ. We've all been adopted into God's family!

An extra special follow-up to the sermon came during a time of testimony when a dear older parishioner stood up and expressed gratitude to God that she had been adopted by a Christian family who raised her to believe in the Lord.  She went on to express praise to God for her spiritual adoption.  An old hymn rarely sung any more came to mind.  It's always been one of my favorites, especially the third stanza, which I will quote following today's encouragement.

Some of you are facing circumstances of trial and uncertainty.  It may be your health, a relational situation, a job-related issue or your finances.  Many write and share of difficult situations you are encountering. We take these troubling matters seriously and lift up our readers in prayer.

I'm a child of the King today and so is every one of you who has placed your faith in Jesus as Savior.  My heart is so full of praise to God as I type this that I paused for a few moments and  just marveled at God's "glorious grace, which He has freely given us, in the One He loves".

I once was an outcast stranger on earth,
A sinner by choice, and an alien by birth;
But I've been adopted, my name's written down,
An heir to a mansion, a robe and a crown!

I'm a child of the King, a child of the King:
With Jesus my Saviour, I'm a child of the King!

Be encouraged today fellow child of the King!

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, we thank You that according to Your pleasure and good will You chose to adopt us, to make us Your sons and daughters through Christ Jesus.  We were predestined to receive this tremendous blessing and so we say, "Thank You!"  May our lives along with our message bring honor to You whose name we bear as we go forth into the lost world where the vast majority needs to hear the message of salvation.  They need to know that they are loved and cared for.  We want to be Your hand extended to those who are hungry and looking for the answers we have found as Your sons and daughters.  We give praise and thanksgiving through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources

"A Child Of The King"  Video  Homecoming Series This may not be the best version on the web but I sure get a kick out of hearing Vestal Goodman say to her husband, "Come on Howard, get up."  That sort of sounds like Brooksyne talking to me sometimes! Though last night she used a different strategy. We were out during the day and came home about 7:30, then went down in our family room where it is nicely warmed by the coal stove. We turned only one lamp on so it was a bit dark (but we save money on electricity, of course).  It doesn't take long for that setting to put me into a trance just before sleep takes over even though I'm trying to watch the news.  I was in that state when I heard Brooksyne say with a little chuckle in her voice, "I love you Stephen."  It was the way she said it, of course, that shook me from my stupor.  It made me jump to my feet and give her a knowing hug that I caught onto the fact that she was sort of making fun of her aging husband.

"Tell Them"  Video  Andrae Crouch  Prompted by a line in the prayer,
"May our lives along with our message bring honor to You whose name we bear as we go forth into the lost world where the vast majority needs to hear the message of salvation.  They need to know that they are loved and cared for."

Our other blogs:
"A Daily Prayer" - A blog simply posting the daily prayer. We keep this up each day since it's merely the prayer from the Daily Encouragement Net message!
"A Little Foolishness" - Humor/satire blog (a great outlet for non-serious writing but at times with a subtle message!) Last updated with the story of Mildred Swanson, who joyfully discovers her "spiritual gift" is sending forwarded emails! (Note: This material is satire!)
"Clear Minded" - Longer, periodic articles on specific issues impacting the faithful believer and church. (Actually this is my intent but I haven't done much with it!)
"Hymns of Hope" - Brooksyne along with two friends made a CD using classic hymns. Brooksyne tells the background story of the 11 hymns. All of these songs are also available for download on the site.
